Second Q & A With The Author (Part 3)

Continued From Previous Month

Q: Okay, I think I have a clearer picture now. Should we be expecting more of these types of books from you in the future, or will you return to illustrated works?

A: I’ll probably continue to do both, because they are both enjoyable to do.

Q: I suppose that’s fair. Also, it’s interesting that you chose the word “enjoyable”.

A: Is it?

Q: It is.

A: I suppose the better question is: why wouldn’t it be enjoyable, and why would I want to spend time writing things that I don’t enjoy?

Q: I suppose I’ve just never thought of paranormal related things as being considered “enjoyable”.

A: Hmmm, I guess I can kind of see that. But, at the same time, thrillers, and horror are genres that are considered enjoyable, right? A lot of people enjoy them. A lot of people spend their time consuming both books and films of those genres. So why not the paranormal?

Q: I don’t know, maybe because it just seems too far-fetched, or “out there”?

A: Ha-ha-ha, you know that is really interesting that you say that because from where I stand, the average person is far more likely to know of or come into contact with a psychic, an experience with someone who has passed on, or come across a mysterious stranger that seemed very close to, but not quite human as opposed to coming in contact with a guy in a mask with a knife or machete who kills one person after another—and who is never seen running mind you, but still manages to catch and kill all of these people—or, they’re more likely to have an experience with or know someone who has had an experience that can’t be explained by conventional means than they are to be part of a group that has adventures while racing cars in urban settings. How’s that for “out there”?

Q: Okay, I guess when you put it that way, it’s different...

Q: Do you think that authors should solely focus on genres that they enjoy, or is it better for them to have a high degree of knowledge about the subjects that they write; regardless of whether they enjoy it or not?

A: I can see advantages to both honestly…so, maybe a mixture. Then again, if you enjoy something, you’re going to do research about it. So, you’ll become very knowledgeable about it eventually.

Q: How much research goes into your writing?

A: I’ve never quantified it before. I like for things like city street names and landmarks to be accurate if I’m writing about actual cities. But, if it’s a place I’ve made up in my mind to begin with, I get to decide those things. So, I guess I’d say I research when it’s necessary for me to do so.

Q: Okay, final question: what will your next book be about, and when can we expect it out?

A: I don’t have the best answer for that at the moment. I’ve got a few stories that are finished, but that need illustrations. Then, of course I have some non-illustrated works that I’m slowly working away at…so, we’ll see.

Q: Alright, well, thank you very much for talking with us today!

A: Thank you!
